As part of our continuing effort to bring useful tidbits of information to those new to NAV, we at InterDyn BMI have created a subset to our Tips & Tricks Category called “Did You Know”. Unlike the Tips & Tricks that tell of handy tips and help teach end-users tricks within NAV, this new blog contains quick information you may not find elsewhere in related Microsoft documentation. The information comes from real-life working experience. Please feel free to share something unique, regardless of module, you may have discovered in NAV.
Here is our first post:
* When on a sales order, If you select an item tracking entries (aka serial number) for an item then a bin code the serial number becomes un attached from the entry?
* When on a journal page and enter dimensions for the account number then enter a balance account the dimension are blanked out?
* Even if you company does not have tax concerns, during the set up process you must enter a blank entry in the VAT posting set up with the type of sales tax?
* If you choose to “Apply” the package data without ‘Validating” first, partial data will be inserted in the table for the records that contain errors.

A while back, I wrote about NAV 2013 Learning Plans by Roles and Readiness Material for Partners.
I’m happy to share with you today that Microsoft now has an entire Product Readiness Library up on PartnerSource specifically dedicated to NAV 2013!
In case you are wondering about what is covered, it’s quite comprehensive: on the Application side alone, 20 feature areas are covered, including Application enhancements, Assembly Management, Queries, RapidStart, Sharepoint Client, and Web Client just to name a few. The screenshot below from PartnerSource shows the list of resources from the Application section in its entirety:
There are a lot more resources grouped under Server & Development Tools and Client Access.
What are you waiting for? Follow the link below, use your PartnerSource credentials to log in, and start getting ready for NAV 2013!
Note: When you click the link to PartnerSource, if you are taken to a page that says “Referring link not Secure“, simply click the Continue link and you will be taken to the Product Readiness Library page. Or, you can copy and paste the link into your web browser. You see this message because we are linking to a PartnerSource page from outside Microsoft’s Extranet.
In case you haven’t been following the official NAV Team Blog on MSDN closely, Dan Brown, the NAV R&D General Manager at Microsoft posted an update yesterday informing us that the first Release Candidate has been cut and the team is now working towards the final Release to Manufacturing build.
This means that partners will be able to download the final product within the next few weeks!
To read Dan’s blog post in its entirety, follow this link:
Dan also announced that he is leaving the NAV R&D team – we’d like to take a moment to thank him and wish him well on his next challenge.
We’re getting ever closer to the roll-out of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013, which is anticipated this Q4 (October 1 or sometime shortly thereafter). While there is no guaranteed General Availability date yet, there is a partner launch by Microsoft in the UK that has been announced for next month, more precisely on the 20th of September (follow the link for the event registration page).
Side-note: I don’t have any screenshots of NAV 2013 yet (and I didn’t want to rip off screenshots from other people’s blogs), but I will be posting some very soon!
In the meantime, NAV partners will have the opportunity to participate in accelerated “Launch Training Blitz“es next week. These are split into two categories: Selling & Demonstrating and Deployment, Architecture & Future Enhancements on the 28th and the 29th of August respectively. You will need your Microsoft Partner Network login to register. Click here to be taken to the registration page.
